Carol Atkinsons research online PDF Print E-mail
Written by Nora Kasanická
The more weathered sb builders will have heard of Carol Atkinson the UK sb builder of sb caravan fame. For those who havent heard and for those who havent seen - check out Carols site on http://homegrownhome.co.uk.
What i ahve always found impressive at Carols and her sons Sams work that everything also get well documented and buildings are practically a live experimental and research sites with lot of goodness for all the interested sb geeks as a result. Her first building (the aforementioned caravan) had among other things done Co2 footprint study and impressive blowdoor tests that check the airtightness of the building. The buildings have impressively thought through and executed building details and thats another reason why it might be of interest to you to look at their work. The best thing is, you dont have to travel to North East England to do it - have look at her research section on her web. The studies include her own, but ahe also listed other in depth research.
Enjoy!

Here is the current content of the research section (as of sept 2011):

Looking for natural building experience? Keen to learn?

We're dedicated to the promotion of natural building through Volunteer Opportunities and Building Courses.

Natural building means using techniques and materials that are environmentally sustainable. We list projects and courses on building with environmentally responsive materials such as straw, earth, hemp, lime and timber. These natural materials are pollution free, are energy efficient and when no longer needed can be re-used or returned to the land.

We're dedicated to education through practical, hands-on learning of natural building.
