The Lehmmuseum , founded in 1999, collects and displays exhibits of historical importance in the use of earth and demonstrates the value of the resource “Lehm” for mankind. While the scientific work of the Lehmmuseum in collecting and preserving objects is still at a starting point, it is playing an important role in museum education providing guided tours for school classes and trainees of vocational schools. It displays samples of earth worldwide, structural parts of destroyed houses (local variation of a reinforced pisé wall), photos and documentation of earth building activities in GDR in 1950ties, Japanese tools for clay plastering and strength test devices and models and reconstructions of different traditional and modern earth construction techniques like different wattle and daub techniques, a model of a round barn constructed of pisé, clay plaster panels, a reconstructed part of a Bodelschwingh’sche Wall (wall built from “clay breads”)...
